This listing is for one Wild Native Historical Colour Plants for Bundle Dyeing Kit, from The heART of Ritual.

This set includes (as shown) oak galls, black hollyhocks, birch leaf, black walnut hulls, and wild madder root. The oak galls, walnut hulls and birch leaf are sustainably hand gathered in the mountains around our home, the black hollyhock and madder are grown in my own garden. The madder took five years to grow and as you can see from the photograph, it is a very potent red! The black hollyhock are biennial, therefore seeded last year in order to gather these blossoms this summer.

This selection has been chosen for bundle dyeing but can just as easily be used for ink making, paint making, and colour modification, depending on what your needs and skills are. These dye plants are historical colours that have been used for thousands of years in both textiles and art (ink, pigments and paint making). A selection of my wild colour making and bundle dyeing tutorials accompany this set and are sent to you digitally (PDF format).

Themes & Focus for this Collection

Our upcoming seasonal shop opening coincides with the Celtic Festival of Samhain and takes place within the liminal space between the last new moon of the Celtic year in October, astronomical Samhain, and the first new moon of the Celtic New Year in November. It is during this time that the death of the old (year) and the birth of the new (year) occurs. With this we enter the dreamtime cycle of moons; a time honouring the birth that takes place during and after the darkest times. It is a potent time of observing blood, bones, ancestors, (re)connection, introspection, and 'getting to know the lay of the land'...within. Many refer to this time as a 'thinning of the veils', however those of us whose ears are finely tuned, we know that the 'veil' is always thin.
