Brigid’s Hearthstone

A flame born of earth, sky, and the old songs of fire.

This great sphere of golden light is crafted from nearly one kilogram of raw, untreated beeswax, gathered in deep reverence from wild hives in the golden hills of West Cork, where bees sip from mountain heather under a roaming sky. Each candle is ritually made — hand-dipped, hand-poured, hand-sculpted — its surface bearing the textured memory of hand-hammered work, echoing the ancient art of the smith, beloved of Brigid. It is a vessel of warmth and devotion, a living sculpture, an altar flame to gather around — magnetic and elemental.

Like the Earth drawn to the Sun, the Moon to the Earth, so too do we find ourselves drawn to its golden radiance, woven into its quiet gravitational pull.

When lit, the candle unfurls its light, soft and fluid, washing the senses in honeyed warmth. The sweet breath of wild beeswax — touched by heather, hawthorn, and the secret work of the hive — rises in a gentle offering to memory, to hearth, to spirit. Even unlit, it holds the whisper of meadows, river winds, and the hum of unseen wings.

The lower hemisphere of the sphere is clothed in a wild structural paste: hand-gathered clay from the amethyst lands of central France, woven with finely ground amethyst fragments and purple slate gathered from Bantry Bay and the Alpine mountains — a tribute to two sacred homelands, places of ancestral belonging and deep remembering.

Amethyst, in ancient lore, carries the energies of clear sight and calm spirit, a grounding of vision into the bones of the earth. The violet hues of clay and stone root the flame in the elder dreaming of the land.

Encircling the equator, three strands of golden dandelion cordage are hand-twisted into place, sun-fed fibres spun with prayer. The dandelion — cleanser, liberator, bringer of light — weaves the living threads that bind all things, the secret filaments that hold the world together, strand by shining strand.

At the east and west of the sphere’s equator, two tassels crafted from the silvery fibres of mugwort and wild rose flow outward. They bring a quiet, tethered movement to the piece — a soft counterbalance to the flickering dance of the flame. Their shimmering light is a quiet homage to the Moon and the ancient tides moving within and around us, a remembrance of ebb and flow, of breathing earth and breathing sea.

Crowning the sphere at the north are three small offerings: a single pearl, a dried daisy, and tender willow catkins. The daisy, ‘day’s eye,’ follows the sun’s journey from east to west, a symbol of innocence, renewal, and the undying resilience of light. The pearl, birthed in hidden waters, holds the mystery of transformation. The willow, long flexible by riverside and tide, honours the wisdom of flowing with change.

Each Brigid's Hearthstone is not merely a candle, but a flame talisman, a space holder, a bearer of light and memory. It is a gathering hearth for soul and kin, a ritual flame that invites reconnection to land, to spirit, to all that flows unseen beneath our days.

It is offered in honour of the bees, the earth, and the ancient spirit of fire that still flickers, tender and strong, in the heart of all things.

Please use common sense and burn candles responsibly.

Pillar candles are more effective, beautiful, and long-lasting if you take good care of them. Here are some tips:

    • Keep the wick trimmed to 0.5cms/¼” - trim before and after each burn - remove any wick trimmings before lighting
    • For the first burn, your Wild Rose Crystal Candle will need to burn continuously for 3-4 hours, then extinguish the flame and allow it to cool completely overnight. Doing this is the game changer, and the most common mistake people make with candles in general. If a candle is not burned for long enough to allow the wax to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge, it will create a “memory ring.” Once a candle has a “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel for the life of the candle. This means it will merely burn a tunnel through the entire candle, not burning across the full surface diameter of wax, and resulting in a short candle burn life and alot of wax to waste! This is a very common mistake made in general, and this one simple tip avoids it!
    • For a bit longer burn, keep the top of the wax folded in toward the flame
    • If burning this pillar candle in a hurricane holder leave at least 2.5cms/1” between the candle and the inside edge of the hurricane.
    • Burning a candle for too long will cause carbon to collect on the wick, leading it to “mushroom.” The wick will then become unstable and produce a dangerously large flame. Plus, your candle will start to smoke and release soot. Avoid this by always following the manufacturer’s instructions. In general, it is recommended that candles do not burn for longer than four hours and cool for at least two hours before relighting. Having said this, I personally tested these pillar candles with all day (supervised) 10 hour burns, then blew them out and left them to cool overnight. I had absolutely no issues with the wick mushrooming, smoke, or sooting. These are extremely high quality German engineered wicks, and working with the best on the market truly does make a difference. Seeing is believing.
    • Keep the flame away from moving air. When burning a candle, avoid proximity to fans, air conditioners, open windows, or crowded areas with people walking back and forth. Moving air can disturb the flame, resulting in those pesky black marks on the glass if you are placing them in a hurricane.
    • Store your candles properly. Store candles in a cool, dark and dry place with the lid on to keep them clean of dust and debris, and to help protect the wax and fragrance.

COLLECTION TITLE:

Sanctuary of the Waters - Where Beauty Comes to Rest

This collection carries the emotional resonance of the water element, the harvest of the soul, and the quiet reclamation of inner beauty and grace. It arrives in a time when beauty is not something pursued, performed, or possessed - but something remembered, returned to, and allowed to rest gently within the self. This is a season of emotional restoration, of returning to the sanctuary of one's own body, rhythms, and instincts. It speaks to the soft but enduring strength of the human spirit after pain, and honours the bone-deep intelligence of the rose - its ability to bloom again, but only when the root is strong and the thorns are honoured.
