In the vast, snowbound heart of the Austrian Alps, where the mountains breathe in slow, frozen breaths and the wild stillness reaches into your bones, we invite you to step across the threshold. This is a rite of passage, a call to return to yourself. A week of silence, deep in the belly of winter—a time out of time to pause, to let the world turn without you for a while, and to loosen the tightly wound threads of a life pulled too thin.

For seven nights, we will dwell in the inner tundras, the vast winter wilderness within. Here, in this place where silence is as old as stone, we will shed the armour of urgency and return to the raw truth of being. This is a retreat for those whose hearts are weary from the relentless pace of modern life, those who long to slip out from the world’s fevered grip and find refuge in the slow, ancient rhythms of the earth.

This is not an escape—it is an encounter. An encounter with the fierce, minimalist beauty of the winter mountains and the deep soul-quiet they offer. The landscape itself becomes a teacher: snow bending the trees under its weight, icicles stretching from roof beams like old stories, the air so cold it feels almost sacred. You’ll find yourself leaning into the primal wisdom of this place, drawn to the fire’s warmth after a walk through the crisp night, where stars hang low and the world seems to hold its breath.

The Long Rest and the Deep Unfolding

This retreat is an invitation to rest like the earth rests—to hibernate. To lay down the burdens, the fast thoughts, the anxious heartbeats, and to meet the quiet where your own breath becomes the only sound. We will sit with the inner mountains, the caves of our longings, the ravines carved out by years of worry, insecurity, and doubt. We will listen for the old songs still echoing in the frozen air, stories wrapped in snow, waiting for the thaw.

In the Irish tradition, winter belongs to the Cailleach, the ancient hag, the fierce guardian of dark places and frozen ground. She holds the wisdom of holding still, of gathering strength in silence, of letting the world lie fallow. The Cailleach knows that there is a time to rest, to gather one’s soul back from the scattered places where it has been spent. As the days pass, we will dwell in her realm, unhurried, contemplative, allowing the heart’s ice to slowly melt.

Between the Dark and the Dawn

We will move, almost imperceptibly, through this rite of winter. We will steep ourselves in the art of being—resting deeply, eating simple, nourishing meals drawn from the land’s own offerings. As the days lengthen, the silence will begin to whisper new things—soft revelations, unexpected understandings. We will not rush them. This is not the hurried thaw of spring but the slow return of light, seeping into the cracks of frozen places.

And then, slowly, the transformation will come. Just as the Cailleach gives way to the Maiden when the earth stirs again, we too will find a loosening—a shedding of the old skins, the callouses formed through years of hustling to survive. The frozen earth will glisten as it softens, revealing a deeper tenderness underneath—a rawness that is not weakness but the vulnerability of life itself.

The Glistening World Beneath

By week’s end, something will have shifted. The hard ground of old habits and thoughts will show signs of new growth, not yet fully formed but undeniably present. There is a freshness that follows the deep rest—the realisation that slowing down has not emptied us but filled us with a quieter, deeper strength. The heart will feel the sun’s return, and the spirit will lean towards life again.

In these fast, fractured times, this retreat is an act of resistance—a refusal to be hurried and harried into exhaustion. It is a statement of faith in the power of stillness. A remembering that we, too, are part of the earth’s cycles and that the frost’s grip will loosen when it’s ready. You will leave as one who has journeyed through the dark, who has faced the quiet wilderness, and found in it not emptiness but presence, not desolation but the slow pulse of life, warming the world back to itself.

---

This is a journey of metamorphosis—a movement from the frozen world into one that is thawed, tender, and touched by the first hints of spring. You will return to your life not only rested but changed, with the knowing that the power of rest can shape you just as much as the striving.

Join us in the deep stillness. Come, sit by the fire, listen to the winter breathing, and remember what it means to truly rest.
