This listing is one glass apothecary jar filled with Sweet & Sour Pickled Ash Keys, from The heART of Ritual.
 
Ash keys are the winged fruit of the Ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior), and young Ash keys make a very interesting conversational piece as an eye catching and flavoursome edible garnish. Even though the whole key is edible, I prefer to eat it like edamame (between my teeth) to cleanse the palette between dishes, and discard the inner fibers.
 
The reason I like to make these really has more to do with ritual and the folklore of the Ash tree, because this tree is honoured in Celtic tradition (and Norse mythology) as the 'Tree of Life', the 'Cosmic Tree'. It represents the three layers of existance, the lower/middle/upper world as well as the past/present/future. It is believed that it's keys (fruit) provide the keys to universal understanding. In Norse mythology it is known as 'Yggdrasil', the great Ash of Odin or Woden, through which he received the secrets of the runes and enlightenment. This is why I am saying these are conversation starters, because they catch your eye on a plate and people are sure to ask you what they are.

This comes in a beautiful locally made recycled glass apothecary jar, complete with our wild botanical Celtic Wheel of the Year mandala art debossed in a wax seal made with handgathered finely ground pyrite, selenite, and biotite crystals. Each jar is adorned with a floral crown. Once open, keep refrigerated.
