This listing is for one Between the Ashes and the Light Ritual Rattle, from The heART of Ritual.
Forged in the quiet heat of transformation, this ritual rattle is a vessel for transformation, essential life force, cleansing, invocation, and elemental awakening. It calls to the ancient pulse of the land—where fire lives not only in flame, but in breath, will, and presence. The rattle head, formed from reindeer rawhide, carries the resonance of drum-skin and bone—echoes of the north, of skin stretched in reverence, of ancestral rhythm. It is encased in a structural body made from wild clay, angelica root, and raw-textured epidote crystal, selenite, hematite, muscovite and quartz—each element chosen with care and intention.
Angelica, long revered in Irish and European traditions, is a plant of radiant protection and connection, a grounded bridge between the earthly and celestial. It roots prayer into matter, anchoring spirit within the body, guiding the soul skyward with feet still firm in the soil.Epidote, a vibrant green mineral of vitality, courses through the form like fire in stone. It is known to amplify the body's life force, to support deep regeneration, detoxification, and cellular renewal. Yet it also carries a more ancient note—an energetic thread said to link the frequencies of earth with Sirius, the star of seers, guardians, and old soul memory. It is a crystal of return: to essence, to purpose, to the starlit origins of soul fire. The inner stitching is done with fibres of mugwort and rose—plants of dreaming, protection, and fierce devotion. Mugwort to clear the path. Rose to soften the heart. Between the rattle head and the handle lies a band of naturally shed snakeskin—symbol of metamorphosis and sacred release. In Irish tradition, the serpent is the silent guardian of the wells, the one who knows what sleeps below and what rises renewed. It marks the threshold where death gives way to life. The handle, shaped by river and time, is carved from driftwood willow, gathered along the water’s edge. Willow, tree of dreamers, lament, and intuitive knowing, carries the medicine of surrender. Its grain is etched with the marks of journey—season, current, and stone. This piece is both functional ritual tool and sculptural artefact—an offering to those who walk between worlds, who keep the hearth of the unseen, who know the work of tending flame is slow, steady, and holy.To be used when cleansing is needed, when rhythm must be restored, when the soul reaches for the stars while standing firmly in the soil. A rattle for fire-keepers. A rattle for the pulse beneath the stone. A rattle for those who remember. Each rattle is individually handcrafted and completely unique. The photographs offer an example of the piece you will receive—colour and patterning will vary slightly, shaped by the particular rawhide, wood grain, and mineral textures gifted by the land.____
ABOUT RATTLES AS RITUAL COLLEAGUES
Rattles are ceremonial tools that resonate primarily with the fire element, their sound resembling the hissing of a snake. As a tool, they are used to purify, cleanse and transform (an individual, group energy, or place) and are also wonderful to use to energize or invigorate if a person is feeling sluggish or a space is stagnant. This is their transformative work as traditional healing tools. What resonates with you, how you choose to uniquely work with these ritual tools, your experience, and the direction this takes is entirely up to you. It is your intimate expression of prayer and reflects your unique ceremonial intention.
As with all things clay and ceramics, if you drop it or knock it about, it is likely to break. So please use common sense when working with this ritual colleague, it is not a spiritual prop or a toy and needs to be held with respect and care.
